Welcome to Wings Over Africa Safaris Limited "your reliable safari partner" your expert for Tanzania tour packages.

Safaris .Tanzania has more designated wildlife areas than any other country on earth, with one third of its surface area given over to national parks, game reserves and forest reserves and other valuable protected spaces.

Central to the country's wildlife crown are its fifteen national parks : unfenced wildlife sanctuaries with no settlements other than facilities for tourists and researchers .None have asphalt roads, and consumptive utilization of natural resources is prohibited .The classic parks such as Serengeti mostly occupy plains, and are where youll get to see the animals you probably came to Tanzania for, albeit from inside a vehicle-although some parks now allow limited hiking in designated areas, usually if arranged as part of an organized tour.Getting around the more forested parks of Udzungwa Mountains,Mahale Mountains,Gombe Stream and Kitulo is done on foot.Usually in the company of an official guide or ranger.Acting as ecological buffers around the parks are over Sixty game reserves, which allow limited human settlement and resource use: in some ,wildlife viewing can be as good as inside the p[arks especially if they cover land visited during annual migrations.Forest reserves, usually in mountainous areas ,are rarely visited by tourists,as few have any facilities ,and getting the required permit can be awkward ,too: we've given details where appropriate.

Organized Safaris. The easiest and often the cheapest way to get to know Tanzania's wild side on an organized safari arranged through a safari company in Tanzania, or an overseas tour operator. For mid-range and upmarket trips, booking ahead by months rather than weeks is essential to be sure of getting the dates and accommodation you want, but at the budget level, where quality is a mercurial beast, its fine to arrange things once you arrive, which gives you the chance to check out the company in person.

Road Safari tend to be Land Rovers or Land Cruisers, sometimes with roof hatches (handy for taking pictures) .On a normal driving safari, you can keep costs down by sharing with other travelers; in a group of four or five, you might pay half what you would have paid  in a couple. Minibuses are not normally recommended due to bigger group sizes: ensure at least that it has a pop-up roof or roof hatch, and that a window seat is guaranteed. When on safari, don't take too passive an attitude.Although some of the itinerary may be fixed, its not all cast in stone, and daily routines may be altered to suit you and your fellow travelers. If you want to go on an early game drive, for example ,don't be afraid to suggest you skip breakfast,or take sandwiches .As long as the staff know there are reasonable tips awaiting them as the end, most will go out of their way to help.

Types of Safari

The type of safaris you take is largely determined by your budget, with accommodation being the main factor, but is never cheap. And be aware that in safari-speak,a "three-day safari" actually mean two nights, and that most of the first and last days will likely be spent getting to and from the wildlife areas if you're not flying. For this reason wed recommend at least three nights unless you're starting close by.Prices should include everything except alcoholic drinks and tips.

At the lower end are so-called "budget" camping safaris ,but which are far from cheap at around $120-150 per person per day,, and youll be sharing with other travelers, too.Nights are usually spent in small tents, either in public campsites inside the parks, or in cheaper ones outside.Expect to muck in with the crew for some of the work, like pitching tents and washing up,and be prepared for a degree of discomfort : thin mattresses and sleeping bags, not having a shower every night, and basic food.More expensive camping trips ($150-250) feature better tents and food but are otherwise similar.

More comfortable ,costing $250-350 a day,are mid-range trips with accommodation in safari lodges or tented camps. Spending upwards $350 a day gets you a private "tailor-made " safari including flights-dispensing with the dusty discomfort and time wasted getting to places by road. On such jaunts, the guiding and service should be  top-notch ,as should the tented camps youll be staying in.Some  of them amazingly luxurious affairs.
